According to the WeChat public account 'China Permanent Delegation in Geneva', on June 16, Li Xiaomei, the deputy head of the Chinese delegation, clarified her position at the 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Li Xiaomei stated that the global human rights governance is facing challenges. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Human Rights Council, it is important to advocate for respect for the independent choices made by countries regarding their human rights development paths. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights should play a constructive role in this regard. China recently released its fifth National Human Rights Action Plan, injecting stability and certainty into the development of global human rights efforts through its own progress in human rights. Currently, Xinjiang and Tibet are thriving and stable, and the legal rights of people in Hong Kong are protected. The Law on Promoting National Unity and Progress of the People's Republic of China aims to ensure equal rights for all ethnic groups and promote common development and prosperity.
Li Xiaomei also refuted the false statements made by a few countries such as the UK, Australia, and Czech Republic. She pointed out that these countries have a history of violations in the area of human rights, yet they refuse to reflect on their own actions. China urges these few countries to stop politicizing and instrumentalizing human rights issues, and to take action to maintain the credibility of the multilateral human rights mechanism.
