According to the introduction, Wei Dongyi was born in Jinan, Shandong in 1991. He is from Dongyang, Zhejiang. He is a undergraduate student in the Department of Mathematics at Peking University, class of 2010. His main research areas include partial differential equations and geometric analysis.
During his high school years at Shandong Normal University High School, he won international gold medals twice, in the 49th and 50th International Mathematical Olympiad. In 2010, Wei Dongyi was recommended to Peking University for further study. He then participated in Peking University's "Master-PhD Combined Program" and continued teaching at the university after graduating in 2019.
According to information on the website of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University, Wei Dongyi will be officially appointed as an associate professor with a long-term contract starting from February 2026.
