Iran-US Negotiations Suspended Over US Actions

According to reports from Iran on the 22nd, a source said that negotiations between Iran and the United States in Switzerland began at around 3 p.m. local time on the 21st. After about one and a half hours of discussion, the talks were suspended for 30 minutes due to the need for internal consultations among the delegations. However, because Trump made threatening remarks, the Iranian delegation refused to return to continue the negotiations. Nevertheless, efforts are still being made by Qatar and Pakistan to mediate, with information being exchanged between Iran and the United States through intermediaries.

Currently, mediation efforts are still ongoing, but no final results have been achieved yet. During the negotiations, the Iranian delegation expressed clear protest against the U.S. actions that violated its commitments, especially those related to Article 1 of the memorandum of understanding.

The Iranian delegation also demanded that the United States accelerate the fulfillment of its commitments, including unfreezing Iran’s frozen assets and granting exemptions from sanctions regarding Iran’s oil exports. On the nuclear issue, the Iranian delegation emphasized that negotiations on the nuclear topic can only begin if the United States fulfills its commitments in accordance with Articles 1, 4, 10, and 11 of the memorandum.

The delegation from the United States and Iran began negotiations on the 21st in Bielenstein, Switzerland. This is the first round of talks after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

The Iranian delegation included Iran's Foreign Minister Alaghizi and others. On the American side, Vice President Wilson, Presidential Envoy Weterkov, and Trump's son-in-law Kushner participated in the negotiations. Pakistan and Qatar attended as mediators.

Wanx said that the first round of negotiations was aimed at “establishing the actual framework and negotiation mechanisms.” Iran, on the other hand, demanded that the US fulfill its promises. It stated that if the US failed to do so, the entire Iran-US understanding memorandum would “face a risk of breaking down.”

The negotiation venue, Bilgern Mountain Resort, was proposed jointly by Pakistan, Qatar, the United States, and Iran. The negotiations focused on Iran’s nuclear issue, as well as the situation in Israel and Lebanon.
