On the 21st, the Iranian delegation participating in the Iran-Mexico negotiations in Birsfelden, Switzerland, suddenly suspended the negotiations in protest against the threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump to Iran on that day.
Trump warned on social media that Iran should immediately stop its “agent” operations in Lebanon, otherwise the United States would launch another attack on Iran, and it would be even more severe.
According to Iranian media reports, Iran's delegation protested Trump's remarks to the US side, and left the venue. The negotiations, which had lasted for 80 minutes, were suspended, and the delegation turned to internal consultations. Reports indicate that Iran is formulating an appropriate response.
Simultaneously, the head of the Iranian delegation, Kálibāf, chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly in Iran, published a message on social media stating, “They should be cautious with their words and be mindful of our armed forces’ preparedness to respond in different ways.”
Regarding this incident, the Lebanese 'Plaza' television reported that Iran's response was clear: unless Trump apologizes for his threatening remarks and Israel withdraws its troops from southern Lebanon, Iran's delegation will not return to the negotiating table.
Xinhua reporters saw at the scene that the negotiation time extended compared to the originally scheduled schedule. It is still unknown whether the Iranian delegation will return to the negotiation table later.
