Russian Athletes Return to International Volleyball Competition

Russian volleyball makes another step forward on the international stage.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) issued a statement on July 8, stating that according to the latest decision by the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Russian athletes and technical officials will be allowed to return to world and official competitions under the FIVB. The Russian national team will also regain its world ranking and its points before being frozen.

The International Paralympic Committee stated that this decision was made in accordance with the latest recommendations of the International Olympic Committee, reflecting the IPL's principle of ensuring that athletes do not lose their right to participate due to their nationality.

The statement also indicates that whether the Russian team will be able to use the national flag, national anthem, national colors, and other national symbols in the future will be determined through negotiations between the International Volleyball Federation and the European Volleyball Federation (CEV). This decision will be communicated with relevant international sports organizations to ensure that athletes can participate fully.

In terms of anti-doping measures, the International Olympic Committee has stated that it will work with international testing agencies (ITA) to develop and implement comprehensive anti-doping testing programs.

However, the International Volleyball Federation also stressed its "deep concern" regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, condemned all forms of violence, and will continue to support the development of Ukrainian volleyball through the Volleyball Empowerment Program.

The day before, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee decided to cancel the previous recommendation to restrict Russian athletes from participating in international competitions, and temporarily reinstated the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee.
