When delivering a speech to the parliament, Salah said: "I urge you to make this parliament a responsible and capable example, helping to foster an atmosphere of dialogue, rule of law, and respect for institutions." He emphasized that improving the economy, strengthening public services, and attracting international investment are the top priorities of the People's Parliament. Members need to "put national interests above everything else."

After the members took their oaths of office, they voted to elect Abdulhamid Awak as the speaker. Awak is a member of the committee that drafted the Syrian constitutional declaration and served as an advisory judge in the Syrian Ministry of Justice from 1998 to 2014.

According to the Associated Press, the establishment of a new parliament in Syria indicates that the country is moving forward with the drafting of a new constitution, with a hope that the legislative process will be resumed after the dramatic political changes.
