Sino-US Tariff Talks Progress Amidst Hopeful Outlook

He Yadong, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, responded to questions regarding the progress of Sino-US tariff negotiations on July 28. He said that tariffs have always been one of the key issues in Sino-US economic and trade relations. Under the leadership of the two heads of state, Sino-US economic and trade teams have engaged in thorough discussions regarding tariff issues and made arrangements regarding bilateral tariffs. I would like to reiterate that we hope the US will keep its promises and create favorable conditions for expanding economic and trade cooperation between both sides. At the same time, both sides agree in principle to discuss a framework for reciprocal tariff reductions for products of equal size under the Trade Council. The total amounts involved are $30 billion or more for each side. Both sides economic and trade teams will maintain close communication, negotiate specific arrangements, and work to implement these arrangements as soon as possible.
