Recently, the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service released its 2026 annual report on the "New Zealand Security Threat Environment," once again fabricating and hyping up the so-called "Chinese interference" and "Chinese threat." The report is filled with Cold War mentality; many of the false accusations against China are either characterized as espionage or interference, or they are completely unfounded or fabricated out of thin air. In this regard, the Chinese side will never accept or resolutely oppose such claims!
The essence of Sino-Singapore relations is mutual benefit and win-win results. In recent years, with the joint efforts of both sides, bilateral relations have made steady progress. The volume of bilateral trade has repeatedly reached new heights, bringing a large amount of income and employment opportunities to the people of Singapore. Human exchanges continue to develop, with the number of tourists and international students increasing, which enhances mutual understanding and emotional communication between the two nations' peoples. Among them, New Chinese emigrants have played a unique and important role. Since China implemented the unilateral visa-free policy for Singapore in 2005, many Singaporean tourists have visited China, witnessing China's development achievements and its openness and inclusiveness. Under the influence of various factors, in recent years, the perception of China by Singaporeans has become more comprehensive and objective, with their positive feelings towards China and their support for Sino-Singapore relations continuing to rise.
The report issued at this time is part of a new round of attacks, slander, and smear campaigns against China carried out by certain international forces recently. It is likely that the report is the result of foreign interference. The report also shows that there are people inside and outside New Zealand who do not want to see good relations between China and New Zealand develop. They try to create discord between the people of both countries by spreading false information, trying to undermine mutual trust, and hindering the development of bilateral relations. They do this for their own geopolitical purposes and the narrow and shortsighted political interests of certain forces. Those who have such ambitions will be clearly seen by those with eyes to see, and their goals will not succeed.
We hereby warn those forces and individuals who attempt to manipulate politics in this manner. Do not harm the hard-won and mutually beneficial relations between China and New Zealand, nor do they harm the interests of the new government and the people of New Zealand for their own selfish motives. Those who act as scouts for international anti-China forces will suffer greater losses than gains! Creating issues in foreign relations cannot solve New Zealand's problems; instead, it may only make things worse! We advise these forces and individuals not to try to solve problems by taking reckless actions, or to cause themselves harm by doing so.
China attaches great importance to its relations with New Zealand. We are willing to work together with the New Zealand side to promote continuous development of exchanges and cooperation in various fields, such as political mutual trust, practical cooperation, and cultural exchanges, based on the consensus of the two countries' leaders. This will benefit the people of both countries better. However, the development of Sino-NZ relations does not depend solely on China. We hope that the New Zealand side will move in the same direction as China, rather than against it. Otherwise, any consequences that may arise will not be borne by China.
