On September 5th, according to reports from CCTV, it was learned from ZhongjiU Railway Co., Ltd. that the Kosht Beibei No. 2 Tunnel in Kyrgyzstan has been successfully completed recently. Phase achievements have been made in key projects such as the Naren No. 1 Tunnel, marking significant progress in the construction of the ZhongjiU Railway project.
According to a relevant person in charge of Zhongji U Railway Co., Ltd., the completed Keshite Beibei No. 2 Tunnel is 209.6 meters long. It is a single-tunnel, single-track tunnel with a maximum burial depth of 41 meters.
The Central-Jingxi-Uzbekistan Railway is a landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative. The project starts in Kashgar, Xinjiang, China, passes through the Tuerget Mountain Pass into Kyrgyzstan, then extends westward through the Kyrgyzstan border city of Jalalabad, and finally reaches the eastern city of Ankabad in Uzbekistan.
The construction of the entire section within Kyrgyzstan began in June 2025. As of now, large temporary roads and temporary power supply projects have been completed and put into use; 27 tunnels have been started; 43 bridges and 88 sections of roadbeds have been started, and the foundation construction for 20 stations has also begun.
Recently, Li Lifan, director of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Center at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told Observer Network that this railway has transformed Kyrgyzstan from a "transit end" into a hub connecting the Fergana Basin with the Eurasian continent. "The transformation of its geographical role is revolutionary."
Li Lifan also mentioned that Russia's attitude has evolved from cautious to conditional support. The mixed approach using the 'Lithuania model' for track width modification has played a key role in the multilateral coordination of the BRI.
