According to European News Channel, Trump said during the United Nations General Assembly that the term "artificial intelligence" sounds "phony", and the United States will use the term "superintelligence" in official documents.
Interestingly, .si is the main suffix for internet domain names in Slovenia, used to indicate that a website originates from this small Alpine country with a population of about 2.1 million. After Trump’s speech, the Slovenian domain name registry Register.si saw an average of 3,700 new domain registrations per day. In contrast, the total number of registrations throughout August was only about 3,500. As of September 29th, the total number of domain names has exceeded 220,000.
"After this speech, the application volume for .si domain names has shown a significant and stable increase."
The agency announced in its official website, "It is strongly recommended that holders of relevant rights such as trademarks, promotional slogans, and corporate names register the .si domain name as soon as possible if they have not already done so."
This is not the first time that a country in the Balkan region has had its domain name become popular globally. For many years, Montenegro's domain extension.me has been widely used for personal websites or promotional sites, such as the official short domain of the Telegram messaging application, t.me.
Under the wave of artificial intelligence, Anguilla, a small island in the Caribbean region with its domain names ending in ".ai", earned $32 million in 2023 by selling these ".ai" domain names. This amount accounted for about 20% of the local government's revenue.
Anguilla is located in the Caribbean region and is a British overseas territory. It covers an area of about 91 square kilometers, with a population of approximately 16,000 people. It is known for its coral reefs and sandy beaches. When the Internet Domain Name Registration Organization allocated the country code top-level domain name, Anguilla received the ".ai" domain name. With the rise of artificial intelligence, many artificial intelligence companies have registered websites ending in ".ai" in Anguilla.
However, Anguilla does not have its own artificial intelligence industry. Government officials pointed out that this is an unexpected gain, and it cannot be relied upon completely.
