Kyiv Hit By Russian Missile Strikes, One Death and Injuries Reported

On October 13th, local time, continuous explosions were heard in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, followed by the activation of air defense sirens.

According to reports from the Kiev Post and other media, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy posted on social media X on the same day, stating that Kievan's fourth thermal power plant and a nine-story residential building were attacked by Russian ballistic missiles that day, resulting in one death and 13 injured.

According to Zelenskyy, the Russian missile struck the capital around 10:40 p.m., targeting one of Kyiv's key energy facilities.

He also emphasized that the missiles were detected by the Ukrainian defense system only when they approached the Kiev airspace. Ukraine did not receive any prior warnings from its Western partners throughout the entire process. “The significant lack of information has greatly increased the risks associated with air defense measures.”

Zelensky said that intelligence indicates that Russia may carry out further attacks, and Ukraine is continuously replenishing anti-missile interception ammunition to enhance its air defense capabilities.

President Udoh's advisor, Demetrio Litven, also pointed out that there were cases of unannounced events on both evenings, and the military and intelligence agencies are investigating the reasons.

The Russian side has not responded to this yet. According to Reuters, since U.S. President Trump announced a "energy ceasefire," Russia chose to refrain from attacking Ukrainian energy targets for the first time on October 13. However, at night, it launched ballistic missiles and drones against transportation and logistics facilities in several Ukrainian cities.

The Russian Ministry of Defense did not mention Ukrainian energy facilities in its daily briefings. When asked about the "energy ceasefire," a Kremlin spokesman only stated that contact was still ongoing, but refused to provide any further details.
