According to a report by Reuters on October 15th, Russian President Press Secretary Peskov stated that the continuous attacks by Ukraine against Russian refineries and other energy facilities are in serious contradiction with the efforts of the United States to promote peace between Russia and Ukraine. He also accused Ukrainian President Zelenskyy of lacking the willingness to reach a peace agreement.
Peskov said to reporters on that day that American negotiators were making “very active efforts” to initiate the peace process, but these efforts were obstructed by the Kiev side.
The Kyiv regime continues to attack these facilities, which obviously contradicts the peace efforts of the United States and its representatives. Peskov stated that the US's positive attempts have so far been thwarted due to the "resistance" of Kyiv and Zelensky from wanting to move towards peace.
Early on the 15th local time, Ukrainian drones attacked a refinery in Russian Yarzna Oblast, causing a fire. Zelenskyy previously announced that Ukraine would resume attacks on Russian refineries.
According to reports, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 12th that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to suspend attacks on energy facilities. However, Ukraine stated that it learned of this arrangement only through media reports and accused Russia of not making any public commitments to abide by the agreement.
According to Kiev, Ukraine had temporarily suspended attacks on Russian refineries for three consecutive days. However, due to continued attacks by Russian troops on Ukrainian energy facilities, it was decided to resume the operations.
Peskov denied that the Ukrainian side had actually complied with the ceasefire arrangements, stating that the related attacks never really stopped, and that the latest attack was “not anything new.”
