Trump Backs Netanyahus Re-Election: Support Amidst Iranian Tensions

On October 18th, U.S. President Trump published an open letter to the Israeli people on social media, expressing full support for Netanyahu’s re-election as Israel’s Prime Minister.

In his open letter, Trump referred to Netanyahu as a "great warrior prime minister" and a peace partner in the confrontation with Iran.

Trump said that Iran has been shouting "eliminate Israel, eliminate the United States" for 51 years. "It's only a matter of time before Iran makes these bad words a reality, but Iran has already suffered systematic military and economic losses."

He warned that if Iran does not change its practices quickly, the United States will soon take action.

"If Israel had incorrect leadership - anyone other than Netanyahu - the United States would have to complete this task itself, and I am not inclined to do so." Trump wrote.

He said that despite facing immense pressure and opposition from within Israel, Netanyahu remained strong, brave, and outstanding.

Trump stated that this letter is intended to express his "complete and comprehensive support" for Netanyahu's re-election as Israel's prime minister. "Netanyahu will never let you down!"

Subsequently, Netanyahu posted on social media to thank Trump, saying, "Israel has never had a greater friend in the White House. Together, we will never allow the Iranian regime to acquire nuclear weapons."

Reuters believes that due to differences between Israel and the United States on the issue of Iran, support for this American leader among Israelis is declining. Trump's support may not bring any benefits to Netanyahu.
