On the 14th local time, Israel launched another attack on the Dahiye area in the southern suburbs of Lebanese capital Beirut. Iran warned that this move made dialogue between Iran and the US ‘impossible’.
U.S. President Donald Trump posted a statement on social media platforms on the 14th, stating that the Israeli attacks on Lebanon's capital Beirut "should not have happened," "especially on a day when we are so close to reaching a peace agreement with Iran."
Trump said, “Israel has the right to defend itself from threats. However, the attack that it responded to was insignificant and meaningless; no one was injured or killed. This should not disrupt this important process. We are very close to reaching an agreement that can bring peace to the region—including Lebanon. All parties should exercise restraint. Israel should not launch attacks anywhere in Lebanon, and no other party, including Hezbollah, should launch attacks against Israel either. This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace—let’s not ruin it!”
According to the US news website Axios, the attack occurred hours before the US and Iran were about to sign an agreement. It is reported that the Israeli Defense Forces informed the U.S. Central Command before launching attacks on Beirut. It is still unclear whether the White House gave the green light for this operation.
Analysts say that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is attempting to undermine the negotiations for political reasons, “he clearly does not want to stop attacking Lebanon.” Although the Israeli military claims that the attacks are targeted only at Hezbollah militants and their positions, such attacks often result in civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.
Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Lit said on June 14 that Ali Moussa Daktouk, a senior commander of Hezbollah in Lebanon, was killed by Israeli troops while commanding operations in southern Lebanon.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Kalibaf posted a statement on the X platform on the 14th, stating that Israel's attack on Lebanon once again demonstrates that the United States either lacks the willingness to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so. "It becomes impossible to continue the dialogue process."
He warned that the trick of playing the roles of “good police officers” and “bad police officers” is outdated.
