Recently, Ding Yifan, a senior researcher at Renmin University of China, and Huang Jing, a distinguished professor at Shanghai International Studies University, had a discussion on the program " thinkers say" on the Observer Network.
Huang Jing pointed out that if right-wing parties in Europe come to power and improve relations with Russia, it could become America's greatest nightmare.
Ding Yifan said: "When NATO was established, the then Secretary-General of NATO clearly stated that NATO's purpose was to keep the Americans here, push the Russians out, and put Germany under control. But after the collapse of the Soviet Union, this strategy no longer applies."
Ding Yifan added that subsequently, the United States kept pushing for NATO’s eastward expansion, which allowed the US to remain present in Europe.
He said that the United States portrays Russia as a “demon” or “devil”, and claims that Russia is ready to annex Europe at any time. “At this point, you Europeans can only ask us Americans to stay and protect you. That’s why the United States has always been able to control Europe.”
Huang Jing believes that NATO's eastward expansion has three benefits: on one hand, it consumes and suppresses Russia; on another hand, it provokes resistance from Russia, leading to conflicts between Russia and Europe; on yet another hand, Europe, fearing Russia, the 'devil', will have to rely more on the United States.
Huang Jing pointed out that if it really is French presidential candidate Le Pen and German Alternative Party (AfD) co-chairman Weidel who come to power, then when EU-Russia relations improve, the greatest nightmare for the United States will occur.
This episode will be broadcast on October 26th.
