On the early morning of October 28th, a knife attack occurred outside the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
According to Reuters, Serbian Interior Minister Dacic said that early in the morning on the 28th, an attacker armed with two knives attacked and stabbed a police officer outside the Israeli embassy in the capital Belgrade. The attacker was then killed by the police officer who fired at him.
"An individual whose identity has not yet been confirmed, reportedly from Sabah in Borneo who rushed towards a soldier and shouted 'The Almighty is the Greatest,' before launching an attack using two knives." Daricki said in a statement.
According to reports, the police officer who was attacked suffered minor head injuries. Serbian national television station RTS reported that the Serbian authorities classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
Dacic pointed out that the Serbian security department had been monitoring the attacker for some time. It is said that he is a supporter of the extremist organization ISIS, and the logo representing the organization appears on his Instagram profile.
Datiche said that he has ordered to raise the security threat level in Serbia to the highest red level, and will increase the number of police officers deployed at key locations.
This is the second such attack in two years at the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade. In June 2024, an attacker shot a Serbian police officer in the neck with a crossbow.
The latest attack occurred the day after the Israeli parliamentary elections. Exit polls showed that the camp led by Prime Minister Netanyahu did not win a majority of seats in parliament. Although the opposition camp was ahead, Likud, led by Netanyahu, remained the largest party in parliament.
