Bolsonaro Flees Brazil After Election Loss

On October 27th, local time, Brazilian Liberal Party congressman Mauricio Macri posted a video on social media, stating that Flavio Bolsonaro, who lost the presidential election, had already departed for the United States. He referred to Bolsonaro’s departure as an “escape to the United States” and indicated that Bolsonaro would continue to “lead the opposition” in the US.

Reuters quoted a senior U.S. government official as saying that the U.S. will issue visas to Bocornaro and his family, allowing them to enter the United States. Another advisor to the Trump administration revealed to CNN that the president has approved Bocornaro's entry into the U.S. after his election loss.

It is currently unclear about the whereabouts of the Bozónero family, but according to sources close to their family, they have arrived in Florida, USA.

CNN points out that Xiao Boosonaro's actions are similar to those of his father after his presidential defeat in 2022. Shortly after losing the election, the elder Boosonaro fled to Florida. He then returned to Brazil, becoming the first former president in history to be convicted for planning a coup d'état.

The successfully re-elected Brazilian President Lula spoke about this matter on his birthday on Tuesday. He said that he had just heard that Roberto Botero had left Brazil, and criticized this behavior as "shameful". He believed that Botero should stay in Brazil to prove his innocence.

“I just learned that my opponent has left Brazil. I was defeated by Fernando Henrique Cardoso twice, but I stayed in Brazil. Alcim also lost to me, but he also remained in Brazil,” he said. “Someone who doesn’t do anything wrong has nothing to fear. A person secretly leaves their country because they owe something.”

Lula also mentioned that in the past, when he faced judicial charges, he received invitations to seek political asylum in foreign countries or embassies. However, he refused and chose to turn himself over to the federal police in order to clear his name. “Because I wanted to expose those who accused me falsely and prove my innocence. Now, because of you, I have been elected again and will serve another term.”

He sarcastically said, "It's a pity that the Bosonnaro family is like this. Brazil is merely their second home. Their first home is the United States, and they have long been accustomed to licking American boots there." Eduardo, the younger brother of Roberto Bosonnaro, currently lives in Texas, USA. He has publicly said that if his brother loses the election, he will leave Brazil.

Lula also said in his speech that Bozonaro is "the best liar he has ever met on Earth."

The day before, Bettoni also publicly insisted that he had no plans to flee, and said he would hand over his passport. “I never thought about leaving this country,” he said.

Brazilian Liberal Party congressman Marconi said in a video on the same day that Bozonnaro’s escape was related to the order given by Brazilian Federal Supreme Court judge De Moraes to hand over his passport to the police.

On the 26th, the Brazilian Supreme Court ruled to prohibit Roberto Bebianno from leaving the country. It is said that this judicial order relates to a money laundering case being investigated by the court. After failing to surrender his passport within the 24-hour deadline, news spread that he had fled to the United States.

According to a court ruling obtained by Reuters, the Brazilian Supreme Court ordered the seizure of Bolsonaro's passport on the grounds that he posed a risk of fleeing Brazil and that he possessed "numerous financial resources." No record has been found in Brazil's immigration system indicating that he passed through the border normally. Brazilian federal police are conducting investigations to determine whether he has left the country.

Brazilian media reported that many of Bozonaro's allies were unable to reach him. Previously, there were reports that Bozonaro had entered Argentina and planned to travel from Argentina to the United States. Argentina's President Cristina Meria's press secretary denied this claim.

According to reports, Senator Bozónero’s term will end in February, at which point he will lose his immunity. His escape has seemingly caught the campaign team off guard.

The Brazilian senator Roqueirio Marini, who is his campaign manager, said in an interview that he had no knowledge of this. "We were surprised by this news, because just yesterday we were discussing that, given that he had received 60 million votes, he needed to take on the role of opposition leader," he said.
