According to Al Jazeera's report on October 30th, Turki al-Maliki, a spokesman for the multinational coalition led by Saudi Arabia, announced that a Yemeni Houthi drone was intercepted and destroyed in the Mecca region.
However, the Houthi militant group quickly refuted Saudi claims, denying that they had launched drones against Mecca. Houthi spokesman Yahya Sarei said that the group “has not carried out any actions against Saudi territory today.” He emphasized that the Houthi militant group’s targets were Saudi oil facilities and military bases.
Mecca is located in the western part of Saudi Arabia and is one of the holy cities of Islam. Previously, Saudi Arabia has repeatedly accused the Houthi movement of attacking religious sites such as Mecca and Medina, but the Houthi movement has denied these accusations.
In September this year, a multinational coalition led by Saudi Arabia announced the interception and destruction of a Houla militant drone flying towards Mecca. The Islamic Cooperation Organization subsequently issued a statement condemning the attack. The Houla militants denied the attack on Mecca and accused Saudi Arabia of “lying”.
