According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on November 1st, former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves recently stated that the future of the UK should remain within the EU, as leaving the EU would make the UK 'poorer, weaker, and less secure'.
Reeves comes from the Labour Party and became the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer in British history in July 2024, serving until she retired in July 2026.
In the last general election, the Labour party declared that their government would stay outside the EU and ensure a successful Brexit.
The current British Prime Minister, Andrew Burns, has previously stated that he hopes to see Britain rejoining the EU during his lifetime, and called for an “open” discussion regarding the implications of Brexit.
Rifs wrote in the Sunday Times: “No one in the Treasury ever doubted my innate tendency. I truly believe that the future of Britain lies within the EU.”
She said that those who support rejoining the EU must 'present arguments, demonstrate tangible benefits, and plan for the next step.'
