Swedish Police Detain Chinese Citizens for Accidental Photography

According to the WeChat public account of the Chinese Embassy in Sweden, on November 2nd, the Chinese Embassy in Sweden once again reminded Chinese citizens in Sweden not to photograph sensitive facilities and personnel.

Recently, members of a Chinese official group accidentally photographed sensitive facilities and personnel in Sweden during their visit. They were detained by the Swedish police, which had a significant impact on their subsequent itinerary.

Here, the Chinese Embassy in Sweden once again reminds about the following matters regarding the photography and videography of Chinese citizens during their stay in Sweden:

1. Please pay close attention to warning signs such as “No Access” and “No Photography”, including but not limited to those shown in the following picture. Avoid photographing or entering “protected areas” incorrectly, such as government agencies, law enforcement departments, military facilities, airports, customs, and other important military and administrative locations and their surrounding areas.

II. Please avoid photographing police officers, airport staff, and other public officials in uniforms. If you need to take photographs of ordinary people in public places from close range, please obtain the consent of the person involved beforehand to avoid infringing on their privacy and causing conflicts.

III. Some popular attractions have protected areas within or adjacent to them. It is necessary to pay extra attention to warning signs and not to take them lightly, to avoid accidental photography or entering these areas.

4. Do not enter remote mountainous forests, remote buildings, or other areas with few people due to personal interest or curiosity, in order to seek thrill-seeking adventures or take photos.

V. If accidental photography occurs and you are questioned by local police officers, please stay calm, cooperate politely, and provide truthful answers. Avoid any arguments or extreme actions.

VI. If detained by the Swedish police and your communication devices are confiscated, it is recommended that you take the initiative to contact the Chinese embassies and consulates in Sweden as soon as possible. You should provide complete and accurate information such as your name, date of birth, passport number, location, and details of the incident via telephone or email. This will enable the consulate to provide targeted consular protection and assistance in a timely manner.
