US-Iran MOU Signed: Strait of Hormuz Reopened, Sanctions to be Negotiated

On June 18th, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced on social media platforms that the United States and Iran had electronically signed a milestone Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz said that the two presidents jointly signed a memorandum, and Shahbaz himself witnessed and endorsed it as a mediator.

Shabaz believes that the signing of this document at the highest level of both governments demonstrates the commitment of both countries to resolving conflicts through diplomatic means. This Memorandum of Understanding takes effect immediately. As a first step, Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States will simultaneously lift its maritime blockade.

Shabaz believes that if the situation is allowed to develop further during this round of conflicts, it could lead to devastating consequences for the region and even the entire world.

He also thanked the leaderships of both the US and Iran, as well as the negotiating teams for their efforts in reaching an agreement. He expressed gratitude to countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt for their role in this process.

Shabiz wrote that he hopes this memorandum of understanding will become a lasting foundation, promoting increased mutual trust, respect, and prosperity across the region.

On the 17th local time in the United States, the US and Iran remotely signed a memorandum of understanding. US officials said that the document was personally signed by President Trump, and it has now taken effect. Bahaa Ebrahim, a spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that negotiations on nuclear issues and sanctions will begin within 60 days from the moment the memorandum takes effect.
