According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, on June 22, 2026, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Director of the Office for International Relations, met with Nizami Purou, Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, in New Delhi.

Wang Yi stated that China welcomes the initiation of subsequent consultations on the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States, with the assistance of Pakistan and Qatar. A consensus was reached on the next stage of negotiations. The 14-point core provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding are not easy to achieve. They clearly stipulate the immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities, the cessation of the use or threat of force, mutual respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and avoidance of interfering in each other's internal affairs. These provisions reflect the spirit of equality, comply with the purposes of the United Nations Charter, and conform to international relations norms. Maintaining and implementing the Memorandum of Understanding will help to consolidate the hard-won ceasefire situation, open up new prospects for Iran-US relations, and bring peace back to the Middle East. This not only aligns with the fundamental interests of Iran's country and people but also meets the common expectations of the international community. As a comprehensive strategic partner of Iran, China has always maintained a fair stance, supported all efforts that contribute to peace, supported Iran in maintaining its sovereignty and national dignity, and supported Iran in improving relations with Gulf countries and regional nations. China is willing to continue to provide assistance in its own way and play a constructive role in bringing about an early return to peace and stability in the region.

Wang Yi said that Iran is a comprehensive strategic partner of China, and the two sides have traditional friendship. The Chinese side always takes a strategic and long-term perspective in promoting China-Iran relations. It is willing to work with the Iranian side to strengthen high-level exchanges, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and promote the stable and sustainable development of China-Iran relations.

Niazmipour reported on the situation in the Middle East and the latest developments in Iran-EU negotiations. He expressed his sincere gratitude for China's efforts in promoting peace and stopping conflicts, and praised President Xi Jinping's four-point proposal for maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East. Niazmipour hoped that China would continue to play an important role in ensuring the effective implementation of the first-phase Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the EU. Niazmipour stated that relations between Iran and China are of great importance. The Iranian side always attaches great importance to its relations with China and highly appreciates China's positive role in international and regional affairs. Deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries is a consensus among all sectors in Iran. The Iranian side firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is willing to further strengthen exchanges at all levels with China, enhance mutual support, explore deeper cooperation potential, and strengthen collaboration within multilateral frameworks such as the BRICS countries, so as to jointly address common challenges.
